What a Client Agreement Should Include
A clear agreement protects your time, your income and your relationship with the client. Here is a simple checklist.
The essentials
- Who is involved: full names and business names of both parties.
- Scope of work: exactly what you will deliver, and what is not included.
- Timeline: start date, key milestones and the delivery date.
- Fees and payment: amount, currency, deposit, due dates and late-payment terms.
- Revisions and changes: how many revisions are included, and how extra work is priced.
- Ownership of work: who owns what when the project ends.
- Confidentiality: what each side must keep private.
- Ending the agreement: notice period and what happens to unpaid work.
- Signatures and date: from both parties.
Common mistakes
- Vague scope that lets the project grow without extra pay
- No deposit, so you carry all the risk
